IN-PERSON WORKSHOPS AND ICE JAMS RETURN FOR COLDSNAP 2023!

Mark your calendars! With generous support from Integris Credit Union, Omineca Arts Centre, Lheidli T’enneh First Nation and Sound Factory, Coldsnap’s free-to-attend daytime series of workshops and IceJams are back for Coldsnap 2023. For those unfamiliar, ‘IceJams’ are free-to-attend afternoon mini-concerts featuring Coldsnap artists. and workshops are more hands-on, education-based sessions led by musicians talking about the art of making music. On Saturday, January 28th at 11:00 AM, join The Oot n’ Oots at the Bob Harkins Branch of the Prince George Public Library for “BookWorm Boogie”, where kids will be up dancing to the beat and their parents grooving in their seats! Afterwards, head to Omineca Arts Centre at noon for ‘Pop Hooks and Rock Riffs’ - a songwriting workshop - with Hyaenas and Goodnight Sunrise. Then we’ll have an IceJam session at Omineca at 2:00 PM with West of Mabou - ‘Celtic Jam’ - bring your fiddle! On Sunday, January 29th at noon, The Small Glories will have their IceJam, ‘The Spirit of Song’ at Omineca Arts Centre. On Monday, January 30 at noon, local icon Kym Gouchie will lead ‘Rock (Painting) Concert’/’Usjun hoh tse k’e’ulhtl’us (You paint on rocks while I sing)’ at Omineca Arts Centre. Painting supplies are limited to the first 30 attendees. On Tuesday, January 31, don’t miss your chance to hear Suzie Vinnick and Lloyd Spiegel at The Makerie (1135 5th Ave) at noon for their workshop titled ‘Making the Blues’. On Wednesday, February 1st, at noon, Irish Mythen will perform at Prince George & District Senior Citizens Activity Centre Society (425 Brunswick St) with ‘The Healing Power of Music’. On Thursday, February 2, also at noon, Aysanabee will be at Omineca Arts Centre for an IceJam, ‘Manifest Creativity’.On Friday, February 3, É.T.É will present ‘L'été en Hiver’ at Omineca Arts Centre at noon for an IceJam. To wrap things up, Kaeley Jade will present her workshop, ‘Writing for Musical Theatre’ at Omineca Arts Centre at noon on Saturday, February 4th.
The Coldsnap team is also very pleased this year to assist The Vancouver Musicians Association, Local 145 of AFM who are presenting “SoundCheck: A Freelancer Symposium” on January 28 and 29. The symposium comprises workshops and educational panels to help musicians upgrade their skills and knowledge. "We are very excited that our symposium could take place the same week as Coldsnap Music Festival,” says Noah Reitman, President of the Vancouver Musicians Association, “This will be an excellent opportunity to present our programming and connect with artists in Northern BC." The symposium will be held at Omineca Arts Centre and sessions are designed to be before and after Coldsnap IceJams and workshops.
