Coldsnap is very pleased to present our free-to-attend "Come in From The Cold" daytime series of workshops and IceJams! For those unfamiliar, ‘IceJams’ are free-to-attend afternoon mini-concerts featuring Coldsnap artists, and workshops are more hands-on, education-based sessions led by musicians talking about the art of making music, or arts professionals discussing the different aspects and challenges of presenting and promoting arts and culture. These events are free-to-attend but not free to present. We are able to present this series through the generous support of all our sponsors and funders, but particular thanks go to Integris Credit Union, Omineca Arts Centre, Lheidli T’enneh First Nation, The Prince George Public Library, the Prince George Conservatory of Music, Island Mountain Arts and CFUR Radio Society.
Northern IDEA's
The music and art that we program is made infinitely better when it is grounded in principles of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA). As arts administrators, we curate our offerings to embrace art and artists of different genres and experiences, and seek to ensure fair access for all to enjoy and participate in our activities and operations. We have work to do to make this goal a reality, work that requires humility, courage, and commitment.
In order to make room for all voices to be heard we need to create forums to engage with individuals and groups in our community, especially those that are marginalized and under-represented, to better understand their needs and desires. In partnership with Island Mountain Arts, Coldsnap 2024 will host a facilitated “Northern IDEA’s” workshop, toward increasing Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility in the Northern Arts community.

Beyond Acknowledgment
Explore the true impact and responsibility of land acknowledgments in our interactive workshop. This session challenges participants to reflect on their equity goals and the role of land acknowledgments in achieving them. We'll discuss strategies for creating meaningful equity for Indigenous communities, understanding the context of local Indigenous histories, and assessing your organization's role in the context of colonialism. Join us to learn how to transform land acknowledgments from symbolic gestures into steps towards genuine change and support for Indigenous peoples.
This interactive workshop will be guided and facilitated by Marek Tyler. Marek is an educator, entrepreneur, project liaison, manager, facilitator, and touring musician living in amiskwacîy (Edmonton) on Treaty 6 territory.
